February is Black History Month, an official observance and annual celebration of contributions and achievements from the Black community and a time for recognizing their central role in national and world history.

ASALH, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, affirms that Black History Month is a powerful symbolic celebration and special time of tribute to acknowledge, reflect on, and be inspired by the critical role of Black History in the pursuit of racial justice and equality.

In honor of Black History Month, this list features organizations committed to helping, healing and uplifting the Black community, including nonprofits on Charity Navigator’s crowd-sourced list of Black-founded nonprofits, in an effort to raise awareness and support for mission-driven causes making a difference all year-round.
